-i am over 13, its free, ive offered to pay, ive told them about the privacy settings and only sharing things with friends, ive done everything! they think all those hacking storys and people getting killed are going to happen to me! i told them its 1 in 1 million! please help!Just don't click on any strange looking links and you'll be fine~! (AND of course don't go meeting anyone that you don't know on facebook, but damn that's common sense.) Unfortunately some parents are gonna be overprotective like that. I guess you have 2 choices, respect what they wish and continue to try to convince them. Or secretly do it at a friends house or something. You gotta convince them somehow that you're growing up and you're gonna do what people your age do... My parents were like that too with the internet when I was younger. Eventually they saw how mature I was and starting letting me do more and more. Hopefully your parents will.Well I understand why your parents are concerned BUT I do agree that if you are smart about it then it's ok to have one. (by that I mean don't accept friend requests from people you don't know and don't meet up with strangers etc). You could try to do your own research about facebook, especially the privacy settings and how it is safe, and then maybe they will take you more seriously. Doing your homework about this stuff can really help your case. They will probably consider it more if you come to them in such a mature fashion. You can also let them have your password if you think that would appease them (and if you'd be ok with that of course).
Your parents are concerned about your safety and well being. Those stories are real, and there's many that you don't hear about. It will only take a few seconds for someone to get your information and start stalking you. I'm not saying it's guaranteed to happen, but try to look at it from your parents point of view. There is a lot of issues that could arise from putting yourself on the internet, and it's their job to protect you.
DO NOT click on any advertisements, add strangers, or give out your personal information (where you live, zip code, credit card code lol). Tell your parents that it's safe, but you have to keep yourself away from weird links and don't click anything strange.
Sorry I'm with them on this. You can still IM or email friends with out it. Keep in mind if you go behind their back, you destroy their trust in you and it takes a long time to get back.
Facebook is stupid why do you want to be on there anyway?
real talk just sneak
